Four Decorah FFA members–Grace Gerleman, Dalton Hemesath, Shayla Smith, and Alex Zweibohmer–competed in District FFA Soils Contest on September 24, 2020, at Hawkeye Community College. The Decorah FFA placed fifth overall as a team and first in the written exam portion. Alex Zweibohmer also placed 9th overall individually. There was a total of 18 teams, with 71 members participating.

Members were tested on their knowledge on surface features, the soil profile, land capability and productivity, evaluation of land use and management practices, and suitability of soils for non-agricultural uses. Members took a forty-point knowledge exam and evaluated four soil pits.
