DHS and DMS Special Olympics Teams Compete at Regionals for Track and Field
The Decorah High School and Decorah Middle School Special Olympics teams traveled to Cedar Falls to compete in the Northeast Iowa Regional Track and Field event at the UNI Dome on March 2nd.
Competing and placing for the high school were as follows:
Emily Green – 1st in shot put, 2nd in the 50-meter dash
Makenzy Hope – 1st in shot put, 3rd in the 50-meter dash
Donnie Hrdlicka – 2nd in shot put, 3rd in the 50-meter dash
Kamryn Leuenberger – 1st in tennis ball throw, 1st in 50 meter walk with me
John Lippe – 1st in shot put, 3rd in the 50-meter dash
Carly Mann – 2nd in shot put, 1st in the 100-meter dash
Wyatt Pleggenkuhle – 1st in shot put, 1st in 50-meter walk
Braden Ramstad – 2nd in shot put, 2nd in 100-meter dash
For the Middle School were:
Daniel Bean – 1st in shot put, 1st in 50-meter dash
Johnathan Bean – 1st in shot put, 1st in 100-meter dash
Aiden Farley – 2nd in softball throw, 2nd in 50-meter dash
Zoey Lollar – 2nd in softball throw, 1st in 50-meter dash
Sky Pasche – 1st in softball throw, 2nd in 50-meter dash
Luke Thompson – 1st in softball throw, 4th in 50-meter dash
Sophomore Makenzy Hope carried the Special Olympics flag, and Senior Carly Mann carried the Special Olympics torch during the Opening Ceremony.
Accompanying the Special Olympics athletes to support and cheer them on were Decorah High School students Amelia Pankow, Maran Martin, Nate Rhodes, and Teagan Menke, members of the Unified Champions group.
The Special Olympics team would like to thank Coach Tangen for teaching them how to throw a shot put and Coach Holthaus for working with them on jumping and running.
The Decorah High School Special Olympians and Unified Champions will next be in action as part of the Unified basketball game at the boys state basketball tournament on March 13th during halftime of the 12:15 semifinal game.
