Free Second Saturday Family Events
Vesterheim offers free admission the second Saturday of every month. Come and enjoy the museum!
This month, there will be family activities and a special presentation in connection with the 200th anniversary of Norwegian immigration.
All ages are invited to put themselves into the shoes of Norwegian immigrants during the 19th and early 20th centuries with a number of activities outside in Heritage Park. Anytime throughout the day, view the outdoor exhibit, Emigrating to America, and play the accompanying game, What’s Your Immigrant Story? In the game, visitors make choices that affect the outcomes of their journey to America and the lives they lead after their arrival. Game cards are available at the beginning of the exhibit.
From 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., make a mini sailing ship out of corks and watch it float on water. Visitors can also step onto the patio outline of the Restauration, the ship that brought the first organized group of Norwegian immigrants to the U.S. in 1825, and experience the size of the vessel that carried 53 people across the ocean.
Free Second Saturday is also a great time for a guided tour of Heritage Park at 1:30 p.m. Special exhibits open are listed here. There’s always something new!
This program is supported in part by a generous gift to the Vesterheim Annual Fund from Bill and Kathi Wild and The Depot Outlet.
