Norsk Skole (3rd-5th Grade)
This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.
Explore cultural activities of Norway and learn some Norwegian language! Luther College students in the Nordic studies program help with this after-school program. Each session will include fun activities focusing on Norwegian folk art and outdoor traditions along with basic Norwegian language instruction. Past students of Norsk Skole are welcome to return. Some activities will be outdoors, so come dressed for the weather! An after-school snack will be provided.
Norsk Skole is supported in part by a generous gift to the Vesterheim Annual Fund from Craig Trygstad and Lynne Coleman.
This program is designed for youth in 3rd through 5th grade.
Norsk Skole will begin each class at Vesterheim's Bruening Welcome Center in the Westby-Torgerson Education Center at the corner of Mechanic and Water Streets. A Folk Art School staff member will be there to greet students as they arrive. Vesterheim Folk Art School will offer a walking school bus for any Norsk Skole registrants coming from John Cline School. If your child attends John Cline and would like to "ride" the walking school bus please email Folk Art School staff directly. For participants coming from Carrie Lee School, parents can coordinate through the Carrie Lee office for students to meet and walk to Vesterheim together. Montessori or homeschooled students can be dropped off or walk on their own to Vesterheim.
Please wear or bring clothes appropriate for the weather and a water bottle. If your child has special dietary needs, please consider providing their own snack.
The program runs for six Thursdays, starting September 5 until October 10 (3:15-5:00 pm CT).
