"Mr. Mayo has a way of getting students excited about science. His Biology and Environmental Science classes are active, engaging, and full of opportunities to learn by doing. Whether students are working through a lab, participating in a hands-on activity, heading outside the classroom, or taking part in a field experience, he finds ways to make science feel real and relevant. He brings a lot of energy to his teaching, and his enthusiasm for science is contagious. At the same time, he holds students to high standards and expects them to think, participate, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning. He makes class fun without losing sight of the importance of learning the material well. What I appreciate most is that Mr. Mayo gets students thinking about science beyond the classroom. His work with the school greenhouse, garden, and recycling program gives students opportunities to see how science connects to the world around them and to the choices we make every day. It is clear that Mr. Mayo genuinely enjoys what he teaches and cares about helping students succeed. His energy, high expectations, and passion for science make a difference, and he helps students see science as something worth being curious about long after class is over."
